News | Singapore Elephants, Fifi Bijoux and Jersey Pearl
I've named the elephant Yunnan, after the province in China where the Freshwater pearls are farmed (also home to elephants). The pearls are circling around the elephant pattern: this represents the fine balance of nature, which must be respected, and the cross-over and interdependency of ecosystems. I have decorated Yunnan's face with Celtic love knots, a tribute to my Scottish heritage and also to focus on sustainability and careful management of natural resources, which are so vital to the survival of indigenous communities. This co-dependency is something which is easily lost in development, and yet it’s critical to the future. The love (or trinity) knots are usually associated with the interconnectedness of humankind within the universe. To me, it’s symbolic of the eternity of nature and the space which we occupy.
