Christie’s London will be auctioning important jewels from the Victorian era in June 2011.
The historic sale includes The Rosebery pearl and diamond tiara, pearl bracelet and pearl brooch, three of the most important jewels that belonged to Hannah, Countess of Rosebery née de Rothschild. The pearl jewellery pieces were made in the opulent Victorian court style and comprise a series of large natural pearl and diamond clusters.
Natural pearls are extremely rare as over farming led to near extinction. Since the early part of the 20th century, cultured pearls have supplanted natural pearls as the most common and available pearls.
Countess of Roseberry was at once Britain’s wealthiest woman. If £1.5m is a little out of your price range, Jersey Pearl are happy to help with creating the perfect pearl jewellery pieces.
