Festive & Fabulous Events

Although Jersey is a relatively small island, it has always had a very big social life with plenty of activities going on throughout the year. Whether your interests lie in music, fitness, cars or even flowers, we’re rather proud that there’s a rich tapestry of events to take part in. Jersey is particularly good with making visitors feel really welcome – so getting out and about during a festival or event is an ideal choice if you’re travelling solo.

Weekender festival image

This is Jersey’s best-known music festival, held every year on the first weekend in September. Comparatively small versus the likes of Glastonbury or Wilderness, its boutique status only adds to its charm and it has grown a solid reputation for a big line-up that far outweighs its size. Acts are chosen from different genres of music, giving plenty of variety to choose from. Imaginative touches – such as a ‘secret’ outdoor clubbing space accessed from a ‘fireplace’ and a creatively-themed VIP space mean it delivers much of what you’d expect from a larger festival. Food is also a focus at Weekender, with their ‘Feastiville’ area offering local beers, ciders and delicious festival grub.

Insider opinion:

This festival is a real Jersey gem, and its island location adds to its holiday feel; get your tickets early.

Find it:

31st August - 1st September, Royal Jersey Showground, La Route de la Trinite, Trinity, Jersey, JE3 4JP.

Battle of Flowers parade image

Battle of Flowers

If you’re after an unmatched visual feast, you’ll love Jersey’s iconic floral parade. Held on the second Thursday of August since 1902, it is Jersey’s most historic festival and as such, is a dearly held tradition with a lot of thought and care going into the event. The painstakingly beautiful floral floats decked with flowers are the result of months of effort by local volunteers, and the results are often breath taking. In days gone by, the floats were carefully put together only to be dismantled in a battle of flower throwing between spectators and participants. This tradition has long since gone and instead, a moonlight parade now ends in spectacular fireworks. It’s a funny thing, but the weather is almost guaranteed to be sunny for the occasion – as the Jersey saying goes: ‘it never rains on Battle day’.

Insider opinion:

The night parade is the one to see, as the floats have lights and the fireworks are spectacular.

Find it:

8th & 9th August, Victoria Avenue, St. Aubin’s Bay, St. Helier, Jersey, JE3 1EE.

The Jersey International Motoring Festival cars image

The Jersey International Motoring Festival

You don’t have to own a vintage car, racing car or motorbike to enjoy this colourful spectacle. There’s something wonderful for everyone to enjoy – whether it’s the colours and designs of the period vehicles, or the thrill of watching them sprint or hill climb alongside Jersey’s beautiful beaches and green fields. Go Karting and scenic touring are represented, with dedicated events for Mini 60s, Fiat 500s and Ford AVOs. And if horsepower doesn’t quite do it for you, there’s a strong musical showcase each year and plenty of traditional food to tempt even the fussiest festival foodies. With charming, characterful events to savour, this lively festival has a social feeling of community to it and attracts people from all walks of life.

Insider opinion:

We love the ‘moonlight sprints’ where the cars each take their turn racing on Elizabeth Avenue; they are very loud but very cool!

Find it:

30th May – 2nd June, various locations around the island.
