This year the Jersey Pearl team have put together some 12,000 bags of confetti, to help you enjoy the Battle of Flowers. Get your throwing arms ready – perhaps with some fabulous pearl jewellery, to make the most of this great summer festival. For the environmentally conscious, we’re also offering free Prosecco to those who return their confetti bags to our St.Ouen store.
One of Europe’s most spectacular flower festivals, Jersey’s Battle of Flowers (Bataille de Fleurs) will soon get underway. First staged in 1902 to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, it began as a flower parade. A single float could use around 100,000 flower heads, with complex designs involving moving parts – also laden with flowers. Along the route, flowers were taken off the floats and thrown into the crowd; when the spectators threw them back, the battle was born. The festival ran successfully every year, becoming a fixture of the Jersey calendar. Today, each of Jersey’s parishes and other community groups compete for awards and the event is always memorable.
We look forward to seeing you there!
